Libraries are magical places. They’re filled with stories and new ideas just waiting to be discovered. Even if you aren’t in the mood to read, libraries are often large, gorgeous and quiet, a perfect place for anyone seeking some time alone with their thoughts. Of course, libraries don’t have to be huge, expensive buildings, but can actually be made out of just about anything.
An often overlooked aspect of libraries is the rarities section. Many university libraries contain an area dedicated to rare and historically significant texts. Here, a Cornell University librarian shows off what’s called “fore-edge painting.” If you’ve never seen a book with this unique style of illustration before, you’re going to want every book you read from now to feature it.
