Old Shipping Containers Transformed Into Incredible Houses

Here at Wimp, we’ve seen some very interesting home designs over the years. From the guy who built a wattle and daub mud hut with his bare hands to the family who lives in a treehouse that looks like a castle, there’s been no shortage of creative people taking their homes to the next level. However, if there’s one design that always comes back around as functional and fashionable, it’s the shipping container.

Why are there so many shipping containers up for grabs? Some are abandoned when a company goes under or finds a new method to transport goods, while others are simply discarded because they are too expensive to send back to their port of origin. As you’ll see from these five homes, there’s no lack of style or comfort when you’re living in a shipping container.

It has some incredible views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The shipping containers aren’t hidden, but meant to be an integral part of the design.

From the outside, it looks like an adult treehouse. What could be better?

But don’t be fooled – this place has all the modern conveniences. What I would give for a soak in that tub!

And the kitchen? For a galley, there’s nothing claustrophobic about it.

5. The Rustic Retreat. While the houses above have a modern look, this Colorado home proves that when it comes to shipping containers, half the fun is throwing away the rule book.
