109-Year-Old Woman Says Avoiding Men Is The Secret To A Long Life

Throughout the ages, man has searched for the secret to long life. Maybe they should have asked Jessie Gallan.

The Scottish woman just turned 109 years old, still walks (with the help of a walker), eats toast and tea, talks to anyone who will listen, and suffers no fools. Gallan has another secret: she starts each day with a steaming hot bowl of porridge.

Her caregivers at the senior home she now lives in are gobsmacked by her spirit and energy. But Jessie herself is less impressed with her lengthy stay on Earth so far.

“I don’t think anything about it,” she told a TV interviewer recently.

Although she now receives care, for most of her life, she was emphatically independent, and certainly was never a goldigger. In fact, Gallan says she has no time for men, and never did.

“They’re just more trouble than they’re worth,” the centenarian told the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, echoing a sentiment that more than a few other women have felt through the millennia. Perhaps that’s why she never married.

“She’s still got all her wits about her and has a fantastic memory” says one caregiver at her seniors home. “She has lots of friends here, not just the residents, but the staff as well. She has so much experience and so many memories to share with you.”

Knitting is another activity Gallan attributes for her long life, as well as generally keeping busy each day.

Jessie has worked for every penny she ever had. Raised on a farm, she continued that work as an adult.

The senior has a letter from Queen Elizabeth, who at 90 years old is but a youngster to Gallan, sent on her 105th birthday. Oh, and she takes a weekly exercise class, so what was your excuse again?

But at the end of the day, her true secret may just be that she rolls with the punches.

“I’ve had my ups and downs, maybe, but I’m fine,” Gallan says, laughing.

Here’s to seeing 110, Miss Jessie.
