Couple Is Blessed With Identical Twins, But Mom’s Freaked Out When Doctor Says ‘I’m Sorry’

Matt and Jodi Parry were thrilled to learn they were pregnant with identical twin girls. Equally excited was their son, who was about to become a big brother time two.

Abigail and Isobel were born prematurely in June 2011. A few weeks later, the parents from Lancaster, UK, received news that left them reeling.

The doctor led Matt and Jodi into an impersonal room and said the two words Jodi will never forget: “I’m sorry.”

Both Abigail and Isobel were diagnosed with Down syndrome. Out of everything else that was said and done that day, Jodi told the Daily Mirror it was the “I’m sorry” that made Jodi feel like the diagnosis was a life sentence.

At the time, Matt and Jodi knew next to nothing about Down syndrome. After all, the odds of giving birth to identical twins who both have the condition is one in a million.

Instead of being supplied with information or support, Matt and Jodi were left with a pit of fear, panic, and unanswered questions. Would the girls be able to attend public school? Could they learn alongside their peers?

But it wasn’t long after the girls came home from the hospital that something else became very clear.

Wait until you see Abigail and Isobel five years later…
