6-year-old Audrey Nethery just won’t stop moving, and even something like a rare bone marrow disease isn’t going to dampen her spirits. Audrey suffers from Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a severe form of anemia that is a result of a failure of the bone marrow to produce red blood cells (unlike conventional anemia, which is generally caused by an iron deficiency). In spite of this, the energetic 6-year-old just can’t get enough of Zumba, a popular dance-based fitness movement that she first fell in love with when a local gym in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky started offering classes.
Her mother, Julie Haise, regularly shared videos of Audrey doing Zumba routines and that caught the attention of someone at the Zumba corporate headquarters. Audrey was invited to show off her moves at a national Zumba convention in Orlando, Florida and as you can see, she stole the show!
