It’s hard sometimes to think what would happen to our children if something happened to us. Luckily, for most of us, this is just a passing thought.
Laura Kingston, however, was born with a deformed heart and congenital heart disease. As she grew older, doctors told her that having a baby would be a risk because the pregnancy would threaten her health and possibly lead to a heart attack. It always seemed like a distant concern, but as she started to think about having a family, the reality of her situation became very real.
Ten years ago, Laura got pregnant and experienced heart failure after her son’s birth. “I can remember being home in the middle of the night,” Laura told KMTV. “My son is crying, and I can’t get to him to his room to get to the crib.”
Doctors ended up performing surgery on Laura’s heart, replacing a valve and allowing her to live without incident for the next ten years. Now, she’s pregnant again, and this time, doctors are even more worried than before. In the past, it would have been unthinkable for someone to have a child with such a life-threatening condition. Now, Laura was able to have two children. She truly is a living miracle!
