In 1912, The Church of Santa Barbara was constructed in Llanera, Austria, a gorgeous principality in the northern coast of Spain. The architect was a local by the name of Manuel del Busto, and I’m willing to bet that, were he alive today, he wouldn’t recognize his handiwork anymore.
That’s because after decades of disrepair and abandonment, the Church of Santa Barbara recently received a facelift of sorts. Now going by the name of Kaos Temple, what once was a house of worship is now something else entirely.
This is what the Church of Santa Barbara looks like on the outside. Now, let’s go inside…
Welcome to Kaos Temple, the most incredible skate park in the world!
Just in case anyone thought building a skate park inside a church was a bit too boring, the minds behind this project decided to take things to another level.
Artist Okuda San Miguel was commissioned to design the beautiful murals that surround the ramps and rails.
I’ve heard of stained glass windows, but these almost look like stained glass walls.
The church is over 100 years old, but thanks to this revitalization, it’s finally seeing patrons again.
There really isn’t anything quite like it in the world.
Maybe this is where skateboarders should go on a pilgrimage.
The folks behind Kaos refer to it as a “sanctuary for skaters and art lovers alike.”
I, for one, think I see the light.
It’s like the Sistine Chapel for extreme sports.
Hear more about what went into the project:
I think I want to go here just to see it in person. It’s so beautiful that it even doesn’t matter that I can’t skateboard!
