Transgender Woman Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting 10-Year-Old Faces 70 Years In Prison

In Wyoming, a transgender woman has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl inside the bathroom of a local home. She now faces up to 70 years in prison.

Miguel Martinez, who identifies as a woman and uses the name Michelle, was found guilty of first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor by a 12-person jury Wednesday.

The mother of the 10-year-old victim told police in Casper that Martinez, a family friend, sexually assaulted her in the residential bathroom. A sexual assault exam was later completed and nurses found redness and abrasions on the girl’s genitalia.

The girl described the abuse in video footage. She told police that Martinez asked her to come into a bathroom with her before touching her breasts and genitalia and penetrating her.

“It hurt inside,” she told an officer.

The girl told police she ran downstairs and told her mother after the assault. Her mother later fought Martinez in a parking lot as the girl cowered in a closet, she said.

Martinez pleaded not guilty to both counts Wednesday in Natrona County District Court, was later arrested while extremely intoxicated on a couch in a home in Evansville. She was then taken to the Casper Police Department, where she became “noticeably hostile and defensive” as investigators questioned her on the girl’s allegations.

Martinez accused the girl of “talking crap” and denied molesting her. She characterized the allegations as a “publicity stunt” and shut down the interview with police. She was found guilty after a four-day trial and will be sentenced at a later date, the newspaper reports.
