It’s embarrassing to admit, but Americans aren’t exactly known for having great pronunciation skills. Maybe we should blame Noah Webster for abandoning tradition for phonetics – after all, his name is still on the dictionary. Or, maybe we should look critically at the lack of literary education in schools. Sure, kids still read books, but reading aloud, studying etymology and practicing articulation have fallen by the wayside. Sadly, it shows.
In fact, 90 percent of native English speakers fail to pronounce every word in this poem correctly. Can you read the whole thing without getting tongue-tied? If not, it’s definitely something to practice.
