A dance studio in Cincinnati, Ohio, is making dreams come true for wheelchair-using students. The Revere Dance Studio offers free dance classes called “Wonders on Wheels” the first and third Sunday of each month. The dance classes are supported by a corps of volunteer dancers who act as shadows for wheelchair-using students who wish to dance.
“(Revere Dance Studio) always has a waiting list for the shadows,” Gina Brittain said.
To celebrate the life of a team member who passed away in 2015, Wonders on Wheels, who range in age from 6 to 27 years old, danced to the Céline Dion song, “My Heart Will Go On.”.
The dance begins with a line of shadows twirling a young, smiling girl in a wheelchair. The shadows dance on their toes and elegantly move their arms as wheelchair-using dancers dressed in sparkly tutus mirror their movements.
The teenage shadows hug their dance partners and perform complicated moves in which they stand on the wheelchair pedals and execute arabesques in the air while other shadows push the wheelchairs.
In the finale, the five pairs of shadows hug each of the tutu stars, smiling to a room erupting in enthusiastic applause.
The emotional video has gone viral, being viewed more than 5.4 million times.
