It was every family’s worst nightmare. Steven Pellettiere-Swapp found his mom, Lyndee, unconscious one day. The 45-year-old mother then fell into a coma for 12 heartbreaking days before doctors advised the family to pull the plug.
This is the kind of decision no family wants to make but done to honor Lyndee’s wishes of being an organ donor. Together, Lyndee’s husband and their son and daughter took her off life support.
One by one, each person said their final goodbyes. Lyndee remembers it all. She even remembers doctors preparing her family for what would happen.
That’s when her husband kept whispering something to her. “I need you to fight,” he said. “I need you to fight.” Lyndee couldn’t move, she couldn’t respond, she couldn’t talk. But like her husband advised, she fought. The mama fought through it all.
“I’m a fighter,” Lyndee managed to say. The family was blown away! Just as they were saying goodbye to their mama, just after they had pulled the plug, there she was alive, alert, a fighter.
The mother made a steady recovery and now she lives to tell the tale of how her family’s words, her husband’s words revived her.
“Just because you are not conscious does not mean you cannot hear,” she told CBS 5 Arizona. “So you should talk to your loved ones if you are in that situation. They hear you.”
