A 58-year-old Rodney man was arrested and has been charged with allegedly poisoning ten of his workmates by serving them a cake laced with amphetamines.
The police investigating the incident executed a search warrant north of Auckland, New Zealand. The charges were: poisoning, cultivation of cannabis, possession of utensils and unlawful possession of firearms.
Waitemata Police Detective Inspector Richard Corbidge said an ambulance was notified after 10 people consumed the cake at a Christmas party.
‘At approximately 11 am on the 13th, 10 patients at a workplace in Glenfield had eaten a cake which allegedly contained amphetamines,’ he said. ‘Eight of the patients were taken to hospital but have all since recovered.’
The man was arrested after an investigation and is due to face North Shore District Court on January 18.
